Gmail may hand over IP addresses of journalists

Gmail may hand over IP addresses of journalists

A California court has issued a subpoena demanding Google reveal the IP addresses of journalists writing for a corruption busting journal from the Caribbean.
The August 28 subpoena, issued by the Superior Court, County of Santa Clara, as part of a "libel tourism" action taken by non-US property developers, demands detailed information about the operators of "tcijournal@gmail.com". The account is the main email address of the TCI Journal, the most influential journal covering the Turks & Caicos Islands. The Islands are a tourist mecca and tax haven in the Caribbean sea, and until August 14 were an independent British protectorate.

Can you run your business using Google applications and services?

Can you run your business using Google applications and services?

So, can you run a business using only Google applications? The answer is, “it depends.” For small, local businesses, Google Apps along with a Blogger site and Google Voice might be more than enough to handle virtually everything they need. Businesses that do a significant amount of collaboration will find Google Docs useful, regardless of size.
For larger companies, as well as businesses that handle a great deal of sensitive information, privacy and security issues loom large. Having your email, documents, and other material stored on third-party servers is worrisome, no matter what Google’s policies promise. And Google is a big target for hackers and other nefarious sorts – though your data might never be targeted, there are plenty of people out there taking a stab at cracking Google just to see if it can be done.

Google, the toothless Big Brother

Andrew Keen once believed Google would become a 'digital leviathan'. Now, he thinks it's falling behind the competition and risks becoming a paper tiger.

Google really is moving towards world domination

An article “Who Gave Google Permission to be the Judge and Jury of Mobile Content?” in Mobhappy caught my attention this morning. In another stroke of why didn’t I see that, Russell Buckley discusses how Google is now determining what mobile users can see with their mobile phones. .
